FORMA Landscape Architecture Capability

 ~ Suburban Desert
Each project that FORMA is a part of comes with its own set of design challenges.
Challenges can be presented by the Client, project site, construction budget, government agencies, various regulations or any number of others. Currently, we grapple with planting design as it relates to water use, fuel modification, and available plant palettes that may be dictated by any number of governing bodies. Many times, we find that we are creating a suburban desert; a cross between what we’ve historically designed for coastal and inland Southern California (dense planting, low to medium water use) and the low desert communities (greater spacing between plants, very low water use). Being comfortable with designing to meet water, fuel modification and agency restrictions is part of our evolution as Landscape Architects. Being able to check all the boxes of a fantastic design concept and meeting all imposed requirements while exceeding our clients’ expectations is what we strive to achieve.
