Jurassic World Design

As part of Universal Studios Hollywood design and development team, FORMA was an integral design contributor when the studios closed Jurassic Park – The Ride in September for a renovation. Jurassic World – The Ride, designed by the same team of the original ride 23 years ago, opened in mid-July and has been met with huge crowds, in line wait-times up to two hours long, and glowing reviews from visitors.

When Universal Studios Hollywood closed its aging attraction, an overhaul to inject the same big- adrenaline scares, lush landscape, and state-of-the-art magic was imagined by the Universal Studios Hollywood Development team. The result is Jurassic World – The Ride.

The USH Development team made the decision, after the ride’s upgrade and refurbishment began, to refresh the Splash Down Plaza. This area serves as the Retail and Restaurant core, as well as the visitor’s entry and exit sequence to and from the attraction. Lush landscape and themed seat walls provide shade, seating, and a delightful ambiance. The plaza now features the Isla Nu-Bar, a bar for adults only, featuring Jurassic-themed adult beverages. Unique visual effects, state-of- the-art animatronics, and large specimen landscape materials make this attraction one-of-a-kind in the world of themed entertainment. This marquee ride is one you won’t want to miss, and will keep visitors returning, especially if you enjoy getting thoroughly soaked on a water ride.

In conjunction with the improvements of the attraction, the adjacent DinoPlay Area was updated. This themed children’s playground provides entertaining distractions for children too small to ride the renovated Jurassic World- The Ride. New inclusive and interactive amenities allow the younger guests to excavate giant dinosaur fossils at a discovery dig site, explore a full-size T. rex skull, navigate a rope plank bridge, and more while immersed in the lush, abundant new vegetation.
